Statement of Policy Letter
In 2002, the Board of Directors adopted the following policy for Seasonal Sites at Veterans Campground on Big Marine Lake located in Washington County, Minnesota. There are two waiting lists which veterans can be placed on:
Service-Connected Disabled Veterans Waiting List
This list has priority for veterans wishing to obtain a seasonal spot, with two disabled veterans contacted for every one non-service-connected disabled/non-disabled veteran, for a 2:1 ratio (from list below). VA certificate of service-connected disability is required to be placed on this list. The list is in order of the time of application. First come, first serve. If a site becomes available, the first veteran on the list will be contacted and offered the site. If the site is accepted, then a first month rental deposit is required. If the veteran declines, then the individual will be placed at the bottom of the waiting list and the next veteran is offered the site, and so on through the list until the site is rented. All veterans on the list must contact the camp office once a year to remain on the waiting list.
Non-Service Connected Veterans Waiting List
This list will be maintained for non-service connected veterans. Veterans on the list will be contacted at a ratio of 2 disabled veterans, for a 1:2 ratio (one veteran from this list for every two veterans from list above), then one non-disabled veteran from this list. The list is in order of the time of application. First come, first serve. If a site becomes available, the first veteran on the list will be contacted and offered the site. If the site is accepted, then a first month rental deposit is required. If the veteran declines, then the individual will be placed at the bottom of the waiting list and the next veteran is offered the site, and so on through the list until the site is rented. All veterans on the list must contact the camp office once a year to remain on the waiting list.
In all cases, an annual reapplication is required or the named veteran will be removed from the list. The reapplication can be by email, mail, in person, or by telephone. Please call for confirmation. It is the responsibility of the veteran to make this application, not the Camp Manager nor the Board of Directors.
